Corona
de Oro is National CORE's second project in the City
of Corona. Construction was completed and the property
was officially "grand opened" in June 2002.
The buildings that made up the Cota
Street Apartment (Corona de Oro) had been a blighted
area in the City of Corona for many years. There had
been years of deferred maintenance and the units were
in need of substantial rehabilitation. The Cota Street
Apartments were an accumulation of 18 apartment buildings
totaling 72 units consisting of four 2-bedroom, 1.5
bath townhomes.
National CORE worked in partnership
with the Corona Redevelopment and Economic Development
department to complete a substantial rehabilitation
of the properties to provide a new 30-year life to
the structures. Renovations included completely gutting
the interiors of the units and adding new plumbing,
drywall, flooring, windows, window coverings, plumbing
fixtures, appliances, central heat and air, countertops,
and cabinets. Third bedrooms were added to 22 of the
units to accommodate the larger families that lived
there. Exterior improvements included site reconfiguration,
security gates, new pool and deck, new asphalt, refurbished
garages, new landscaping, new laundry facilities,
and the installation of tot lots.
