As part of an extensive downtown revitalization effort, the City of Fontana was searching for perspective developers to address a need for affordable senior housing. National Community Renaissance, (National CORE) in a joint venture with Related Companies of California fulfilled that need with "The Sierras", three of National CORE's premier apartment communities.

Village at Sierra was the first of "The Sierras" to be completed. Officially opened in February of 2003, the three-story Spanish-style community comprised of 108 one-bedroom units offers seniors a haven that is pedestrian-friendly, close to services, and near public transportation. Residents enjoy an abundance of amenities that include a community room, fitness center, lounge, media center, swimming pool, and a courtyard that features a barbeque and outdoor lounge area.

Due to the success of the Village at Sierra, the City of Fontana invited National CORE to participate in the development of two more communities. Modeling the exemplar Village at Sierra, National CORE established the Fountains at Sierra and the Gardens at Sierra.

The Fountains at Sierra provides 93 one and two-bedroom apartment homes to seniors whose income ranges between 30% and 50% of San Bernardino County's area median income. The 50% Area Median Income for a family of four is $27, 850. In likeness to the Village at Sierra, Fountains at Sierra is also a three-story Spanish-style community providing complementary amenities.

The Gardens at Sierra provides 93 one and two-bedroom units. The community is reserved for seniors who make 50% of the Area Median Income. This means residents pay between $488 and $584 per month.

On July 14, 2005 , Fountains at Sierra and Gardens at Sierra celebrated their grand opening, making "The Sierras" complete. "The Sierras" convenient location, beautiful architecture, lush landscapes, spacious courtyards, and affordability represent the community ideal.
