Preschool Teacher
POSITION DESCRIPTION: To facilitate the students fulfillment of his/her potential development in the areas of social/emotion and cognitive/intellectual, motor, language, and self-help skills.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: To be responsible for the education, supervision and management of children between the ages of three and five years of age. The program operates 175 days a year, with a morning and afternoon program session. The teacher is responsible for the planning of appropriate educational lessons, activities and assessments in accordance with the Preschool curriculum, ECERS and DRDP-R requirements. The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the fields of early childhood education and special education
ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIPS: Directly responsible to the Program Director and the Lead Teacher
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
These responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
Plans and manages the classroom schedule to ensure a balance of active and quiet experiences.
Arranges centers at a time to maximize the effectiveness of the collaborative team approach.
Writes lesson plans to include themes, materials and overall skills or goals and experiences.
Prepares the classroom for each days instruction and informs each staff member of individual responsibilities. Performs assessments of children and conducts parent conferences.
Develops and manages instructional games and activities in centers.
Organizes and contacts community involvement approaches in an effort to broaden experiences through field trips and guest speakers.
Assists with program evaluation and needs assessments.
Attends professional development activities appropriate to the areas of responsibility.
Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth.
Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Organizes parent training.
Maintains standards of student behavior and ensures safety of students
Demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality.
Performs other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the Director

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITES:
Experience and training should reflect a high level of professional preparation and dedication as a teacher of young children of different developmental levels from diverse social, cultural and language background
Ability to assess the individual needs of children and to develop an appropriate program for all children
Ability to establish and maintain a high level of collegial cooperation with staff and community
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Possess or qualifies for an Associate Development Teacher Permit
- Complete a minimum of 12 semester units of course work in early childhood education or child development (excluding field work), including at least one course of at least three semester units in each of the following core areas:
1.Child/human growth and development
2.Child, family, and community, or child and family relations
3.Programs and curriculum
- Minimum of 50 days of experience in an instructional capacity in a child care and development program, working at least three hours per day within the last two years
- Must meet all local and state licensing requirements for teacher according to CCLD
- Ability to lift from 15 to 40 pounds and ability to move freely (bending, sitting on floor, running, jumping, etc.) to support the indoor and outdoor activity of children required
- Excellent interpersonal skills required
