JOB DESCRIPTION
PROGRAM COACH - HOPE
 

The Program Coach position is a traveling leadership position that provides implementation support to Hope Through Housing's After School and Beyond staff in an effort to improve the quality, educational value, and safety of the program at each site. The Program Coach is responsible for creating a supporting continuous learning opportunities and assisting After School and Beyond program staff in successfully integrating program standards and strategies into their daily interaction with students. The Program Coach also ensures that After School and Beyond delivers high quality training opportunities to After School and Beyond staff.

The position reports to the Assistant Director of After School.

Description of Duties

On-Site Coaching:

•  To provide comprehensive support to After School and Beyond program sites, which incorporate best practice standards.

•  To assist site staff in embedding the After School and Beyond vision, mission, & philosophy into the daily implementation practices at each site.

•  To incorporate an understanding of multiple learning modalities & how to engage adults in a learning environment through effective coaching, listening, questioning, & planning skills.

•  To observe, assess, and provide feedback to staff around the effectiveness of program service delivery.

•  To coach staff in identifying best practices and strategies around successful program implementation through effective problem solving, strategic planning, goal setting, and critical thinking.

•  To facilitate conversations and continuous learning opportunities for site staff to strengthen their understanding and approach to engaging and connecting with children in an after school environment.

•  To advise and assist staff in planning unique programs based on missions of partner organizations, goals of After School and Beyond, and the unique interests and needs of the children.

•  To assist staff in articulating the connection between activities being implemented, what children learn through these activities, and how these activities align with program standards.

•  To advise and assist staff in keeping adult/child interactions positive, respectful and supportive.

•  To ensure that each site implements all After School and Beyond core components.

•  To ensure that each site maintains compliance with evaluation and data requirements.

•  To advise and assist staff in ordering and maintaining appropriate resource materials, supplies, and equipment.

•  To work collaboratively with colleagues to provide quality leadership for sites.

Training:

•  To work in conjunction with the Youth Development Team and Assistant Director of After School Programming in developing research-based training and technical assistance modules, which are appropriate for After School and Beyond staff and are consistent with the mission, vision, philosophy, and core components of After School and Beyond.

•  To effectively facilitate the transference of information through diverse, innovative, and interactive training and workshop opportunities for staff.

•  To provide staff with techniques to incorporate effective problem solving, strategic planning, goal setting, and critical thinking skills into program planning and service delivery.

•  To suggest resource materials, supplies, and equipment that are most appropriate for the successful implementation of program components.

•  To work collaboratively with colleagues to provide quality leadership and consistent information to staff throughout the organization.

•  To perform other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements :

  • Valid California driver's license and use of vehicle with proof of insurance.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to multiple sites across California .
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends (on occasion).
  • Willingness to have overnight business travel.
  • Travel demands: approximately 30 hours per week

Professional Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in education, psychology, or related field.
  • A minimum of two years experience in after school program delivery.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with After School and Beyond staff, partner organization administration, property management staff, parents, community leaders, and Hope Through Housing and National CORE staff.
  • Supervisory experience in after school programming or related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with criteria for quality after school programs and youth development concepts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others.
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills.
  • Strong public speaking and group facilitation skills.
  • Familiarity with basic computer software programs and ability to type.
  • Ability to speak or write Spanish is preferred.
